Universiteit Leiden - Netherlands Metabolomics Centre

Leiden University (LU) is since 2000 focused on the development of analytical methods for a metabolomics and based systems biology approach to enable personalized medicine strategies in a strong cooperation with TNO (Van der Greef). LU applies its internationally well recognized metabolomics platform to study the early onset of multifactorial diseases and participates in various public-private partnerships like the Centre for Medical Systems Biology and the Netherlands Bioinformatics Institute. LU is leading the Netherlands Metabolomics Centre (LU/NMC), one of the worldwide largest Metabolomics initiatives focusing on the development of better metabolomics tools for personalized health and quality of life. The core partners of the LU/NMC, which will also participate via LU/NMC in this project, are University of Amsterdam, LU, LU Medical Centre, Utrecht University Medical Centre (UMCU), TNO Quality of Life, Wageningen University, DSM, Merck and Unilever. The LU/NMC has defined a research program of about 50 million Euro’s from 2008-2013. LU/NMC has also established the Metabolomics Data Support Platform, headed by Margriet Hendriks (UMCU) and Theo Reijmers.

NMC/LU would be leading WP5 and the COSMOS project Co-Coordinator is Prof. Dr. Thomas Hankemeier,
